Resort 2014: Pullover season, if ever there was one

Best pullovers of Resort 2014

I’ve been following the fashion shows for, erm, 30-some years — ever since watching Elsa Klensch on CNN Saturday mornings while other kids were watching cartoons — and I can’t ever recall a season where the humble crewneck pullover factored so prominently into collection after collection after collection. In Resort 2014, it shows up reinterpreted more ways than I can count. In knits, leathers, wovens and combinations thereof; solids, patterns and appliques; eyelets and laser-cut “lace.” The list goes on. So much inspiration around simple shapes beautifully rendered. I spent most of Sunday trying to wrangle an epic post detailing a vast array of them, but it was totally unmanageable. In the end, I had to whittle it down to this relatively small pile of images (click to enlarge). You’ll have to follow the links to see all these tops in their full glory. I hope you find something inspiring in it!

Best meets worst of Resort 2014: The Row

Best and worst of Resort 2014 - sweaters from The Row

I’m in love with this chunky russet sweater, especially paired with that long, layered skirt and flat shoes. Nice to see something a little friendlier from the Olsens for The Row (even if I do love their trademark primness). But they may have gotten carried away with the sideways-cabled and mega-bobbled thing …

Battle for the best of Resort 2014: Chloé

Chloe yellow marled sweater Resort 2014

Uh oh. Remember how handily Chloé won the Best of the Best of Resort prize last year? You’d think I might have waited for this year’s collection before semi-declaring Marc Jacobs the season’s winner. Although, in the end, I might have to call it a tie — between this and those sweater-skirt combos, I couldn’t possibly choose.

The whole collection is characteristically amazing, by the way. In addition to this sweater, I’ll take looks 14-left (especially those blue boots!) and 31, head to toe.

Best of the best of Resort 2014?

Marc Jacobs rib-knit sweater-skirt combos from Resort 2014

It’s early to be declaring a Resort 2014 knitwear winner (especially as pullover mania marches on) but oh how I loooooove these slinky rib-knit skirt-and-top combos from Marc Jacobs — perfection with those amazing sandals. That’s gonna be hard to beat.

[UPDATE: Uh oh, we’ve got a contender.]

First of the best of Resort 2014: Sportmax

Sportmax Resort 2014 sweaters

The Resort 2014 images have been starting to roll in, and it is pullover mania, people. I’ll keep an eye on that developing situation, but meanwhile can we talk about these fantastic Sportmax sweaters? OK, that one on the lower left is only part sweater knit, but that just makes me want to draft a hybrid pattern for myself prrrronto.
