So close!

Quintessential buttons

I really thought I was going to be showing you my finished Acer by now. After making significant progress recently, I thought it would be such fun to surprise you all with a big TA-DA! The problem is, I decided I wanted to wear it to the trade show last weekend, and as soon as I put a deadline on it, things started going wrong. (Sad face.) So I had to accept that it wasn’t happening and stop trying to race to the finish line. But soon, very soon!

Meanwhile, there are two new items in the shop today that have ties, of a sort, to this cardigan. Awhile back, Julie Hoover posted a photo of her cable needles, which were too beautiful for words. I bought myself a set and knitted the rest of this sweater with them, enjoying them immensely — so much so that I ordered them for the shop. Six months later, they’ve finally arrived! Then this week I started thinking about buttons for my Acer and remembered I have a stash in the studio. Back in June, I bought a small number of really perfect old-school buttons, also for the shop, but hadn’t ever gotten them sorted out and shot and priced. After raiding the pile, I finally got the main type listed. So here they are for you: notched rosewood cable needles and quintessential buttons!

So, uh, you know what I’ll be doing this weekend. How about you?

Yarny links for your weekend enjoyment

I don’t have any new knitting to show you this week, but I do have some links and updates you won’t want to miss!

The Unfinished Ones is a Stockholm gallery exhibit by Kari Steihaug, wherein unfinished knitting projects are hung as art, along with their stories — some funny, some poignant (thx, Kerstin)

– The late, great Ruth Asawa made the New York Times memoriam-roundup, The Lives They Lived

How to knit onto leather! (Reminds me of those amazing Annie Williams clutches — ugh, so beautiful.) (thx, Anna)

– Take note: The yarn business having taken over her life, former Blog Crush profilee Rebekka Seale has officially moved her blog

– Lovely free sock pattern at Cotton & Cloud

Lara’s Hat! I like this better than the mega versions I was predicting would be everywhere

AND IN SHOP NEWS:

– The first new addition of the year is this spectacular tobacco-brown waxed canvas tool pouch (one of them went straight home with me)

– I should have called the Thank-You Sale the Bento Bag Stock-Up Sale — you all wiped me out of them in two days flat! Except for the underappreciated tan ticking, which is one of my favorites! As of yesterday, though, I’ve got all sizes and colors again, but in some cases just a few, FYI. More coming later in the month. (And speaking of the bentos, this is one clever customer.)

– Last but not least, the “High-fiber” tote — featured in the new Knitscene, which I haven’t seen yet — is now available at Home Made in Swainton NJ. And Apple Yarns in Bellingham WA, already fully stocked on other FSCo goods, will now be carrying the Yarn Pyramid — look for it there in a few days! (Full stockists list is here.)

Have a fantastic, fiber-filled weekend, everyone!

Can I get a cable over here?

Hill Country Hat

There was a time when I thought knitters who find stockinette boring were crazy. Especially in the round? So rhythmic and non-taxing; perfect for winding down; suitable for doing while watching a movie or participating in a conversation. Who could not love stockinette?! But somewhere along the line I seem to have switched camps. If I had a sweater’s worth of worsted on hand (any worsted!) I would be in serious jeopardy of casting on Rook right now. Which is why I specifically haven’t bought yarn for it. Yet.

Anyway, I finished the two Hill Country Hats. The first one, for the gift exchange, I made slightly less slouchy.* I figured if a dude got it, he could either pull it down and roll up the brim, or wear it hipster-style. A dude did get it, and loved it, and he had the perfect height and head for it. This one, for me, I made according to the original pattern dimensions, and it’s the perfect everyday, over-the-bun, toasty-but-not-roasty hat. Now that it’s on my head, I need to turn my attention back to Slade, but I’m not sure I can face the stockinette. Might have to squeeze in a nicely complicated little cable hat in between. Or something.

QUICK SHOP UPDATES:

– Bestsellers back in stock: thread snips, row counter, rulers, natural baskets, plus all colors/sizes of the bento bag.
– The Knitters Graph Paper Journal is proving to be wildly popular!
– There’s still one more copy of the Aged Issue of Kinfolk (issue 10). Taproot 8 is all gone, sorry.

I will be shipping on Saturday once again, FYI — last-minute Fringe Supply Co. orders still have a chance of arriving before Christmas. Of course, that’s assuming the USPS does their part. To see whether you’re in a 1-, 2- or 3-day zone, enter origin zip 94710 in the USPS Priority Mail Map. Orders received by 9am PST on Saturday will ship on Saturday. So barring USPS delays — which I have no control over — most shipments should arrive on the 24th.

AND! if you’re in or near Kaukauna WI and want to buy Fringe goods in person, pay a visit to Make.Do @ KC&T, the latest addition to the Stockists lineup.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

brb gotta turn 45

Free shipping today only at Fringe Supply Co.

I know lots of you assume I’m twentysomething (bless your hearts) and I AM! I’m also thirtysomething and fortysomething, and today I’m turning 45. I’ve gone to the Point Reyes seashore with my sweet husband, where I’ll be waking up to a beautiful view … of the perfect black tote he got for me. (Bless HIS heart!) And of Tomales Bay.

So I don’t have a proper blog post for you (and may or may not have one tomorrow either, sorry!) but I do have a little gift from me to you: Until midnight tonight PST, I’m giving you free shipping within the U.S.* on Fringe Supply Co. orders over $45. Enter code HAPPYKTBDAY at checkout.

[UPDATE: Apparently PayPal is overriding the shipping discount and I’m not in a position to figure out why! But no worries, I’ll refund any wrongly charged shipping fees this evening. So sorry for the glitch!]

*International shipping will still be invoiced separately, as always. Email contact@fringesupplyco.com for a shipping quote.

Hot new goods

Must-have new totes, Knitters Graph Paper and Taproot 8 at Fringe Supply Co

Hi, everyone — hope you’re having a lovely weekend. I’m just taking a minute here to let you know about some fantastic new additions to the shop in the past couple of days. There’s the Knitters Graph Paper Journal. There’s the new issue of Taproot, which has Carrie Bostick Hoge’s Hats for All knitting pattern and a bound-in sewing pattern by Sonya Philip (of 100 Acts of Sewing fame), along with candle-making and lots of other great content. And last but far from least, there’s one of the most beautiful and well-designed canvas-and-leather tote bags I’ve seen, handcrafted in San Francisco. I’m crazy excited to have it available, along with everything else, now at Fringe Supply Co.

I also want to let you know that I was able to reorder Kinfolk 10, the quickly sold-out Aged Issue, and will have those additional copies in hand sometime this week, I believe. [MONDAY UPDATE: They’re here!] If you want to make sure one of them is yours, go ahead and place your order and I’ll ship it to you the minute it arrives!
