So close!

Quintessential buttons

I really thought I was going to be showing you my finished Acer by now. After making significant progress recently, I thought it would be such fun to surprise you all with a big TA-DA! The problem is, I decided I wanted to wear it to the trade show last weekend, and as soon as I put a deadline on it, things started going wrong. (Sad face.) So I had to accept that it wasn’t happening and stop trying to race to the finish line. But soon, very soon!

Meanwhile, there are two new items in the shop today that have ties, of a sort, to this cardigan. Awhile back, Julie Hoover posted a photo of her cable needles, which were too beautiful for words. I bought myself a set and knitted the rest of this sweater with them, enjoying them immensely — so much so that I ordered them for the shop. Six months later, they’ve finally arrived! Then this week I started thinking about buttons for my Acer and remembered I have a stash in the studio. Back in June, I bought a small number of really perfect old-school buttons, also for the shop, but hadn’t ever gotten them sorted out and shot and priced. After raiding the pile, I finally got the main type listed. So here they are for you: notched rosewood cable needles and quintessential buttons!

So, uh, you know what I’ll be doing this weekend. How about you?

brb gotta turn 45

Free shipping today only at Fringe Supply Co.

I know lots of you assume I’m twentysomething (bless your hearts) and I AM! I’m also thirtysomething and fortysomething, and today I’m turning 45. I’ve gone to the Point Reyes seashore with my sweet husband, where I’ll be waking up to a beautiful view … of the perfect black tote he got for me. (Bless HIS heart!) And of Tomales Bay.

So I don’t have a proper blog post for you (and may or may not have one tomorrow either, sorry!) but I do have a little gift from me to you: Until midnight tonight PST, I’m giving you free shipping within the U.S.* on Fringe Supply Co. orders over $45. Enter code HAPPYKTBDAY at checkout.

[UPDATE: Apparently PayPal is overriding the shipping discount and I’m not in a position to figure out why! But no worries, I’ll refund any wrongly charged shipping fees this evening. So sorry for the glitch!]

*International shipping will still be invoiced separately, as always. Email contact@fringesupplyco.com for a shipping quote.

Stocking stuffers and last-minute gift ideas

Stocking stuffers and last-minute gift ideas

If you’re looking for stocking stuffers, group gifts, or even something very very special, I’d like to help! Here are some ideas — and of course there’s lots more over at Fringe Supply Co.:

– The wooden ruler nobody can resist
Doane notebooks — who doesn’t love a blank notebook (or 3)?
– An array of marvelous canvas and leather pouches for pencils, tools, cosmetics, you name it
– Cutest row counter ever [UPDATE: now out of stock, but more on their way]
– Picture-perfect scissors
Gift certificates! Did I mention? You can now buy FSCo. gift certificates

AND:

Stitch markers and removable stitch markers are great in a card, a stocking, tied on top of a gift …
Bento bags slip easily into a stocking or gift — or why not use it as gift wrap?
– Don’t forget enclosure cards for your hand-knitted gifts

On a slightly larger scale, tote bags and the Yarn Pyramid are extremely popular gifts this year. And of course, if you’re still looking for something truly special for a favorite friend or family member (or yourself!), there’s the ideal travel and knitting tote.

If you need help choosing, I’m here for you!

Hot new goods

Must-have new totes, Knitters Graph Paper and Taproot 8 at Fringe Supply Co

Hi, everyone — hope you’re having a lovely weekend. I’m just taking a minute here to let you know about some fantastic new additions to the shop in the past couple of days. There’s the Knitters Graph Paper Journal. There’s the new issue of Taproot, which has Carrie Bostick Hoge’s Hats for All knitting pattern and a bound-in sewing pattern by Sonya Philip (of 100 Acts of Sewing fame), along with candle-making and lots of other great content. And last but far from least, there’s one of the most beautiful and well-designed canvas-and-leather tote bags I’ve seen, handcrafted in San Francisco. I’m crazy excited to have it available, along with everything else, now at Fringe Supply Co.

I also want to let you know that I was able to reorder Kinfolk 10, the quickly sold-out Aged Issue, and will have those additional copies in hand sometime this week, I believe. [MONDAY UPDATE: They’re here!] If you want to make sure one of them is yours, go ahead and place your order and I’ll ship it to you the minute it arrives!

The very best goods to give and receive

Fringe Supply Co — the very best goods to give and receive

As you already know, Fringe Supply Co. is stocked with beautiful, cunning and hardworking goods I think every fibercrafter should own — from my favorite little counter and everyone’s favorite ruler to an array of great bags and baskets and more. But today I’ve added a few new ones. There are handsome navy canvas tool pouches, beautifully detailed round pencil cases (in limited quantities — be forewarned!) and a waxed canvas Dopp-kit style bag I literally cannot take my eyes off of. It is exquisite. Even Bob pauses to gaze longingly every time he walks past them in my studio. Also: Kinfolk 10, “the Aged Issue” — dedicated to all things that get better with age. I was dubious when I heard this was the theme of the next issue. But I have to say, it is very cleverly done, and as beautifully produced as ever. It would make a great gift for a variety of family members.

So whether you’re shopping for others or compiling your own wish list to share, please do take a good look at Fringe Supply Co. And thank you for shopping small this holiday!

Introducing … the Yarn Pyramid

Introducting the YARN PYRAMID letterpress poster from Fringe Supply Co.

You guys, this is a thrilling day for me. I had this funny idea for a poster exactly a year ago, when I was working on what was then to be the Fringe holiday web pop-up, now known as Fringe Supply Co. It was such a simple idea but it made me laugh: the Yarn Pyramid. (“For a balanced fiber diet.”) I couldn’t make it happen with the time and resources I had at that moment, and it led to the wildly popular “High-fiber” tote bag, which I love, but the original idea has been rattling around in my brain ever since. And it’s finally come to fruition.

The finished product wound up being a collaboration with two amazingly talented friends. My pal Leigh Wells did the illustration. I designed it to look like an old-school educational poster. And our friend Victoria Heifner of Milkfed Press is doing all of the printing on her hand-cranked letterpress. So it’s a beautiful artifact, with every shape and letterform pressed into creamy Crane & Co cotton card stock. I couldn’t be more pleased, and I hope you’ll all want one hanging on your wall at home.

The Yarn Pyramid print is available today at Fringe Supply Co. and also at some of the best yarn stores known to man:

Fibre Space in Alexandria VA (703.664.0344)
Tolt Yarn and Wool in Carnation WA (425.333.4066)
My Sister Knits in Fort Collins CO (970.407.1461)
Knitterly in Petaluma CA (707.762.9276)
Makers’ Mercantile in Kent WA (425.251.1239)
Fancy Tiger Crafts in Denver CO (303.733.3855)
Gather Here in Cambridge MA (781.775.9504)
Haus of Yarn in Nashville TN (615.354.1007)

I’ll be making it available to new stockists starting next week and will keep you apprised of any additions. Or, of course, you can always order it here. Online orders will ship rolled in a tube; the stores will sell it to you flat.

ALSO: Pom Pom Quarterly issue 7 landed in two bundles the past two days. The preorders all went out yesterday and fewer than a dozen copies remain, so if you’re ordering that beautiful new poster for yourself, you might want to grab one of those as well!

If you love the Yarn Pyramid, it would mean the world to me if you’d help spread the news by pinning any of the images from this post or the store page, and/or sharing it with with your Facebook or Ravelry friends.

Thanks so much to all of you for supporting Fringe and me in so many ways. It is a joy being able to make things like this happen, and I owe it all to you. Have a terrific weekend!
