The new Quince and Co. Scarves Etc. 2013 collection released on Tuesday (here’s the lookbook), and there’s lots of great, timeless stuff in there to love and knit. See especially Falmouth and Ebb. But to my great surprise, my favorites at first glance were the two with closures!, which I normally despise. I don’t know why, and this is a totally subjective personal thing, but I just do not like shawl pins — especially when they’re holding cardigans closed — and I don’t want to see buttons or toggles or anything else on a scarf. And yet somehow these two designs work for me. On the left is Greta by Elisa Cantolini, my very favorite. On the right is Grasshopper by Annie Gullion, the texture of which I love. (I confess to disliking the actual buttons used on the sample, which is part of my problem with closures: Good ones are hard to find.) Of course, it doesn’t hurt that both scarves are styled right up my alley — that jacket on the left could have come directly out of my closet, and the grey yarn diffuses the potential cutesiness of the ties. So hooray for simple styling. My compliments to everyone involved.

Love, love, love the Greta! The closure looks a little odd when worn not tied, but why would you ever wear it that way when it is so perfect this way? That lookbook is stunning. I wonder if they’ll publish a print and e-book version like they did with the Hannah Fettig KnitBot?
Ooh I love the one on the right! These are beautiful!
I am knitting Ebb as part of a knit along as we speak. It’s a clever pattern, knitting up so beautifully. I bought the ebook because I love all of the patterns. Ordered yarn for Undulation, and I see Greta and Grasshopper in my future!!
Greta is one of my faves too-being a decades long member of the no shawl to ever be worn with a potentially stabbing (or immediately lost) pin/closure/apparatus, unless in front of a television camera, the spark of delight for Greta surprised me. I’ll be scouting yarn for this one soon!
I completely agree about closures on scarves but these two appealed to me as well. There’s something really fresh and contemporary about both patterns and I can imagine wearing either with my wardrobe.
Good lord, but those people are amazing with styling, light, and color! Love this collection. Will probably own it soon.
